function description We also found that MALAT1 was increased in most breast cancer cells. In contrast, miR-124 was downregulated in the MCF-7 cells with MALAT1 overexpression. We found that MALAT1 expression had no effect in breast cancer cells treated with the miR-124 mimic or miR-124 inhibitor. Taken together, our results reveal that MALAT1 may act as an endogenous potent regulator that reduces miR-124 expression.
